We are still working to get volunteers to write our letters and get them started. We are also waiting on a little bit more information on the people who we are going to write to - that way we can pair people that we think would work together. Also, to give a little bit more insight into what to write to their partners. In regards to raising awareness/money for malaria, we don't really have enough time to attempt to buy bracelets and sell them at games and stuff. Instead we are going to try to figure out other ways to get people to donate to the link that Ashley sent us. We are very excited, though, to get this project started and get letters to Ashley.

This week, we got in touch with Ashley Malloy who is a nurse in Africa from New Palestine. She is going to help us get a project going. Our plan is to get a group of seniors from our school to send and receive letters from a group of seniors in Africa. These letters are hopefully going to be encouraging and honestly just something to help each other get through the stresses and obstacles that senior year holds for kids (like the college test in Africa that they take, and the college exams for students in the US). Since we are just in the beginning, we don't know anything about the details of this. We are looking forward, though, to what this project will hold in the future.
The second part of this project is going to be about spreading awareness here in New Pal about the impact that malaria has in other countries as well as trying to get some funds donated to Ashley's cause. We hope to get people to donate by offering them some sort of incentive - like offering bracelets to people who donate to the website (since we can't directly donate funds). World Malaria Day is actually on April 25th, so hopefully, we can use that to our advantage in some way. |
